The Man In The Tent
Here’s a shot I took at a restaurant in Kuwait. The restaurant, otherwise modern and with a hint of Kuwaiti architecture and what not, had set up a tent by the entrace where this man treated the guest to some old fashioned, Kuwaiti hospitality. We were greeted by our host (whose name I forgot to get…so bad) and he immediately poured some tea for us. You see the bundle of cups on his left and the traditional, golden tea kettles that are positioned in front of him, on a live fire/coal. He then treated us to some songs (I am sure traditional) to the beat of beating/grinding some herb, as you can see in the photo.

Blue Mosaics
This is a picture of the based of a water fountain. Typical to many Middle Eastern water fountains, there is extensive use of mosaic tiles.

Fishing At Persian Gulf
These gentlemen were fishing at the Kuwaiti side of the Persian Gulf. I was surprised to find out that many Kuwaitis enjoy fishing. For some reason I had come to believe that fishing was only a Western past time. For some reason I thought that people in the middle east fish only to eat, not as a sport. Well, I couldn’t be more wrong.

Contemplating By The Gulf
This is a photo taken by the Persian Gulf in Kuwait. The name “Persian Gulf” is used by all non-Arab countries, but the Arabic countries are trying to change the name to Arabian Gulf. This is only used in the Arabic countries and is not recognized by the U.N. and other international organizations.

McDonald’s In Kuwait
Here’s a shot I took at a mall in Kuwait…two Kuwaitis wearing the traditional Arabic cloths ordering Big Mac. What’s next? Kuwaiti youth drinking Starbucks? Well, yes, Kuwait probably has more Starbucks Coffee stores per square inch than any other nation on the face of the earth. There are also plenty of other coffee shops to compete with Starbucks, so you can safely bet that Kuwait has the most coffee shops in the world per square inch, and that Kuwaitis probably talk really fast.
